Our PAYSE Ambassador Marek Wins Gold at the IBJJF European Championship in Barcelona

Our PAYSE Ambassador Marek delivered an outstanding performance at the IBJJF European Championship in Barcelona and secured the title in his Masters division.

The prestigious Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu tournament is considered one of the biggest BJJ competitions in Europe and brings together high level athletes from across the international Jiu-Jitsu scene every year.

For our ambassador Marek, this was the first major Gi tournament of his career and an important milestone in his Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu journey.

Marek’s opening match immediately turned into one of the toughest challenges of the day.

His opponent brought tremendous physical pressure and, after scoring an early advantage, focused mainly on controlling the pace of the match defensively.

Despite this, our ambassador stayed active throughout the entire fight, constantly pushing the pace and searching for offensive opportunities instead of becoming passive.

This mentality represents exactly what PAYSE stands for and what modern Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu competition is about:

staying aggressive, constantly searching for solutions and never giving up.

In the end, Marek secured a close decision victory thanks to his significantly more active performance on the mats.

After the difficult opening match, our PAYSE Ambassador found his rhythm more and more throughout the tournament.

In the semi finals, Marek dominated his opponent and secured the victory via Bow and Arrow Choke, one of the most iconic submissions in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

In the finals, Marek once again controlled large parts of the match. After securing a strong backtake, he scored important points and worked towards another Bow and Arrow Choke finish.

Although time ran out before he could complete the submission, our ambassador earned a well deserved points victory and secured gold at the IBJJF European Championship.

Before the tournament, our ambassador Marek was unsure how his first major Gi tournament would unfold.

Although he had already achieved major success in No-Gi grappling including a European title and multiple strong performances at grappling tournaments he had intentionally invested significant time into his Gi training over the past months.

Especially after his time in Brazil, Marek developed a deep passion for the traditional side of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

With every match at the European Championships, his initial uncertainty disappeared more and more.

Winning the tournament in Barcelona gave our ambassador even greater confidence heading into the upcoming World Championships.

Beyond the athletic success, the atmosphere around the event was something special.

Together with around 15 athletes and team members from Gracie Berlin, our PAYSE Ambassador experienced an intense and successful weekend in Barcelona.

After winning the title, the team celebrated the success together and enjoyed the moment after an unforgettable competition day.

Following his victory at the IBJJF European Championship, our ambassador Marek is now fully focused on the next stage of preparation.

With months of intense training ahead, he plans to sharpen his Gi game even further and compete at the highest level again at the upcoming World Championships.

The goal is clear:

become World Champion.
